Abstract
This study looks at the nonverbal messages of tattoos from the perspective of both tattooees and individuals that have no tattoos. Descriptive statistics were used for the data gathered from 3 universities/colleges. This study found that 90.4% of subjects without tattoos believed that tattoos were a form of self adornment (i.e. self expression and self beautification). It was also found that more college students have considered getting a permanent tattoo than have ever worn a "realistic" temporary tattoo. This study also found that out of the 23% of subjects that had tattoos 100% of the tattoos were easily hidden. The research answered some questions about tattoos that may have some useful insight into the future of tattoos.
