About This Journal

Oakwood is an annual literature and arts magazine published at South Dakota State University since 1975. SDSU students edit the journal, led by faculty advisors. Accepting diverse forms of literature and art, Oakwood is published during the spring of each year. We distribute handsomely printed hard copies to contributors, the campus community, and other interested parties, and shortly thereafter make this digital version available worldwide via SDSU’s Open PRAIRIE Repository.

Beginning with our 2017 issue, Oakwood embraced a regional identity and began publishing work from writers and artists of the entire Northern Great Plains region at all levels of experience—from students at our host university to authors with multiple books in print. This includes those who are living in the region now and those who have been shaped by the region but currently live elsewhere. We intend for Oakwood to be an annual chronicle of the creative spirit of this region.
